Three explanations cover almost every case. The address was mistyped or truncated when it was copied. The link came from somewhere that recorded an older address, since page names on this site are stable but not guaranteed for ever. Or the page was withdrawn because it could no longer be maintained accurately, in which case the withdrawal is recorded on the index of pages rather than left as a silent gap.

If you arrived from a link on this site rather than from elsewhere, a short report naming the page you started from is genuinely useful, because an internal link that fails is a defect this end.
